This project was one of the winners of the "Living labs for innovation-based regional value creation" appeal that has been launched.

Living labs serve as a model and should generate not only specific added value for the regions but also transferable know-how for the establishment of further living labs in Saxony. Representatives from science, commerce and municipal institutions all work together in these living labs.

Telewerk is being implemented by a consortium under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Volker Tolkmitt from the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. Other partners include the Fraunhofer Institute for Transportation and Infrastructure Systems IVI (Fraunhofer IVI), Volksbank Mittweida as well as medium-sized companies in Saxony.

The goal of this living lab is to erect a functional building with a minimum CO2 footprint and a structured energy and load management in the direct vicinity of the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. This experimental platform will support application-oriented research and training, from IoT networking in energy management for the building and systems engineering, cyber-security for digital infrastructures, regenerative power supplies, right through to sociological aspects of telework (co-working) and sustainable life forms in the countryside. The project also hopes to encourage the emergence of regional value chains in timber structures, power engineering as well as cyber-security.

The project has been awarded around € 500,000 from the simul+ future initiative of the State Ministry of Regional Development - on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon state parliament.
